When I started playing poker I was so excited when I closed a big hand from the flop to forget my goal: to win the most chips possible. When I was a marginal hand I thought carefully about what my opponent might have in hand and how to beat him. When I had a very strong hand the only thing I wanted was to put all my chips to the center of the table.

Big mistake!

Large items can mean big pots, but with a big issue is much more important to understand what your opponent is strong.
If you think it is weak you can play in slow play, you can point to call and leave because he thinks you’re bluffing, or better yet you can push him to bluff.
If you think you can let the strong points for you and relaunch the turn or river to take away the most chips.

Borgata Poker Open in 2003, was “Under the Gun (UTG) and I raised with 9-10 of pictures, they called me in two included Bobbby Thompson was little dark. On the flop fell 8-7-6 giving me the maximum scale, Bobby came out with a bet of the pot and both me and the other player we called. An ace on the turn went out and he pointed again, I still had the highest point and, given my inexperience, I have not thought enough about what my opponent might have had. I just called in the hope that the third player to do so.

If I thought I would have done better in the hands of Bobby at least two pair and the other player a straight type J-10, I moved all-in making sure that at least expensive to call Bobby would come. Instead I did just call and the third player the past, when a second ace fell on the river Bobby has put heavy and I had to make a difficult decision, I eventually put my chips in vain since he turned a pair of 6 .

If I put all my money on the turn, the result would have been different, putting Bobby on the difficult decision to call my all-in I could throw him off the plate.

The following year in the same tournament I had on my right the super aggressive Jimmy-Jimmy Cha. He raised and I reraise with a pair of 10, he called and we were heads-up. The flop the highest card was a ten and there were two spades, once again I had the peak. This time I thought about what he could have in hand, couple of nines, couple of jacks, queens … the possibilities were endless. Why could not simply have two high cards, Jimmy ago check, a move is not unusual for her part, and in this way was my turn to handle the flop. I decided to aim because of his aggressive play and how I expect he’s sending me reraise all in and I called.
This time I went to ruin as the previous one, lost all my chips in a situation where I was favored 3 to 1 against his flush draw.

So there’s always the possibility of being beaten with a big hand. In a televised tournament at the Plaza I relaunched with a pair of tens and was called by the big blind. The flop was Q-Q-T, giving me a full house. My opponent called my bet feigning despair as an actor in Hollywood, giving me the impression of having a Q in his hand. A K fell on the turn and he made me check raise. I could fly but not AQ or QK QJ or Q-10 so I slowed down and I just called. When he then made a small bet on the river grew suspicious and I just called. He beat me with a full turning more Q-10. I closed a powerful hand on the flop and I had no chance of winning the hand.
Analyzing his way of playing and having a good read on the opponent I have saved a lot of chips that eventually allowed me to reach the final table.

So do not let the excitement of closing a very strong hand on the flop makes you forget to analyze what your opponent may have in hand. There are a lot of chips that move during these hands and you want them all to you!
